unraveling

i got the thing about the RvD. basically, it means if i cut out the sleeve from the sleeve, the back from the back, etc. i'm good. as i unravel the coat, i see that there are bits of the fabric that are white on the back and thicker, so i'm assuming it's because they have that vlieseline stuff on them that you are talking about. does that mean i can just use those to cut out the pieces that should be vlieselined? incidentally, the recipe (wrong lexical field altogether) calls for two types of vlieseline, a thinner and a thicker kind: can i get away with just the one kind?

and another question: when i carry over the pattern from the paper to the fabric, how do i do it? do i pin the paper pieces on the fabric? do i then trace the outline of the pattern piece? the outline of the seam? or both? (this must be smack in the dumb question category, but i've been wondering for almost two years)

also, so i don't forget, i'm going to have to add some appliqué flowers at some point (the only condition on which she will accept that a grey coat can be a princess coat is if it has many flowers in purples and pinks on it). i figure if you know about it too, you might remind me before i get past the crucial point at which i was supposed to do it.

and another question: should i wash the coat bits before i move on?
